The Extreme Right in Britain Essay -- Political Politics
The Extreme Right in Britain Introduction Perhaps, one of the highly debated issues in the electoral procedures of different European nations is about the extreme right. Based on the premise that the nation is the primary unit of social and political organization, extremist nationalism has been revived since the demise of communism. Unlike civic nationalism, which stresses equality and solidarity, the exaggerated, chauvinistic, and aggressive nationalism of the extreme right upholds the significance of the nation and national identity against any other value. Each person is defined by membership in ancient ethnic and cultural groups that are hierarchically arranged according to the "natural order." In the extreme rightsââ¬â¢ view, violating this natural order through racial combination leads to corruption in society. Consequently, the extreme right portrays itself as the defender of the nation, protecting society's integrity and purity from the onslaught of foreigners and unwanted change. Therefore, national identity subordinates all other identifications; it divides good from evil and friend from enemy. It is a source of pride that right-wing extremists feel has been denied them by the state and liberals. The resurgence of extreme right parties gained its first sudden and dramatic momentum when the Front National (FN), led by Jean-Marie LePen, scored 11.2 percent in the 1984 European elections. This took many by surprise, including political and social scientists, most of whom at the time had expected rightist extremism to disperse altogether. Indeed, until the mid-1980s, the organized extreme right remained completely marginalized in Europe, enjoyed little political support, and performed poorly in elections. Biological Behavior
Biological Criminal Behavior CJA/314 December 12, 2011 Biological Criminal Behavior Significant genetic and psychological evidence exists that supports the notion that biology played a role in explaining Mr. Hinckleyââ¬â¢s crime of the attempted assignation of President Ronald Reagan by in 1981, including seriously injuring to three other people. According to Schmalleger (2012), ââ¬Å"The shape of a personââ¬â¢s skull corresponds to the shape of the underlying brain and is therefore indicative of the personality, (p. 9). Because of the actions of John Hinckley Congress enacted changes to the law that affected the way defense attorneys used the insanity defense in order to protect their clients in court due to concerns that some defendants had no metal disorders, and others were classified as having personality disorders. Those who support the mens rea approach argue that if the courts had considered Hinckleyââ¬â¢s mental culpability he would have likely been found guilty be cause they claim he was clear about his intentions. The notes Hinckley left for film star Jodie Foster showed how disturbed he was. John Hinckley reportedly admitted that he was fantasizing about the life of a character in a famous movie. This article went on to explain that Hinckley suffered from other physical ailments that caused significant weight gain and also required prescriptions such as Valium, antidepressants, and antihistamines. In addition, ââ¬Å"At his trial the defense successfully won a battle to introduce a CAT-scan test showing the widened suici of the brain found, according to one defense psychiatrist, in one of three schizophrenicsâ⬠(Carrithers, 1985, p. 24, para 7). During Hinckleyââ¬â¢s trial the prosecution and defense both argued that he suffered from clinical issues such as paranoid personality disorder, depressive neurosis, process schizophrenia, or dysthymic disorder. The legislation passed by Congress relating to Hinckleyââ¬â¢s insanity plea was aimed at protecting the rights of the mentally ill and of society. Now the defense has to prove that their client is psychotic, but are not mad creatures if they want to claim insanity. Incredibly, John Hinckley was recently in the news because the courts are currently contemplating about whether or not to release him into the custody of his mother who is elderly. Evidently the issue was serious enough for the federal government to get involved. For example, ââ¬Å"Earlier this year U. S. Secret Service agents observed John Hinckley Jr. the man who shot President Ronald Reagan and three other men in a 1981 assassination attempt,à go to a bookstore to read about President Reagan and presidential assassinations (ABC, 2011, p. 1, para 1). A Hybrid Moth-Flame Optimization And Extreme Learning...
A Hybrid Moth-Flame Optimization and Extreme Learning Machine Model for Financial Forecasting Abstractââ¬âIn this work, a system for stock market prediction is proposed based on a hybrid moth-flame optimizer (MFO) and extreme learning machine (ELM). ELM is also a promising method for data regression and classification and has the advantage of fast training time, but it always requires a huge number of nodes in the hidden layer. The usage of a large number of nodes in the hidden layer increases the test/evaluation time of the net, and there is no grantee of optimality of the setting of weights and biases on the hidden layer. MFO is a recently proposed promising optimization algorithm that mimics the moving behavior of moths. MFO is exploitedâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦ELM is used as supervised learning method for SLFN method. ELM has high accuracy and fast prediction speed while solving numerous real-life problems [2], [6]. ELM randomly selects the input weights and hidden layer biases instead of fully tuning all the internal parameters such as gradient-based algorithms. ELM could analytically determine the output weights [2]. Due to random choosing of input weights and hidden layer biases, ELM needs more hidden neurons than gradient-based learning algorithms [7], [8]. The bio-inspired algorithms were used in optimizing ELM to overcome its drawbacks. In [7] differential evolution (DE) algorithm was applied to select input weights and biases to determine the output weights of ELM. DE-ELM achieved good generalization performance with a compact structure. In [9] DE-ELM was used for the classification of hyperspectral images, and it improved classification accuracy and computation time. In [10] Evolutionary ELM based on PSO algorithm is proposed, and PSO algorithm improved the performance of traditional ELM. In [11] a new method combined ELM with an improved PSO called is proposed to improve the convergence performance of ELM. In [12] an evolutionary approach for constituting extreme learning machine (ELM) ensembles is introduced to direct the selection of base learners and produced an optimal solution with ensemble size control. This form of treatment has been used to treat many different addictions and ailments. There are multiple methods used in Aversion Therapy treatment. The study of Aversion Therapy used in treating sexual disorders has been around for years and is somewhat controversial. The four major methods of Aversion Therapy used in the treating of sexual addictions and behaviors are: chemical, electrical, classical, and operant. Todayââ¬â¢s society is chalk full of sexual deviants, pedophiles, and rapists, who have deep seated issues which need addressed and resolved. Since the 50ââ¬â¢s, there has been a serious increase in sexual abuse and sexual abuse related deaths. During this time, the number of pedophiles and sexual deviants has drastically increased. Sexual abuse and sexual misconduct is one of the leading causes of psychological issues in children and adults to day. Aversion Therapy is being used to loosen the grip of sexual addictions and sexual psychological disorders. The techniques have been used in treating many sexual deviants and are described and critically measured from the point of view of the experimental psychology of learning. AVERSION THERAPY

Hamlet - 787 Words
Elements of Drama: A Review of Hamlet Elements of Drama: A Review of Hamlet The way an artist creates a sculpture is similar to the tactics of a drama writer. While artist focus on the color and shape of their creations, writers of drama focus on specific elements. In Hamlet, Shakespeare uses plot, character, setting, staging, and theme to create a well-rounded story. One of the first elements of drama is plot. Considered to be the foundation, plot is the idea in which the setting and characters surround (Mays, 2014). As a stack of dominoes, lined in a row, the plot of a story creates a similar effect. As each domino falls, it enables the rest to follow suit. Plot is comparable, because theâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Within a dramatic piece, characters are those of who the story revolves. The central character of a dramatic story is the protagonist, known as the hero, or one the audience may identify themselves. The antagonist is the opposition of a drama, better known as the villain (Virtua lLit, n.d.). In Hamlet, the newly appointed king is the antagonist because he murdered his brother, took his thrown and married his old lady. Hamlet is the protagonist because he, along with the audience, see the king as a criminal, while others do not. He represents the good guy, as he seeks to avenge his poor father. Setting and Staging is another important element of drama. Setting is the time and place where the story occurs. When performed as a play, the setting may be the most important aspect of the story. Some plays involve multiple settings while others develop under one. The staging is the directors idea developed into reality. This element includes the props, costumes, lighting, sound, etc. Overall it attributes to the believable aspect of the play (VirtualLit. n.d.). The story of Hamlet uses multiple settings. Free Media Violences Boy Killed by 19 inch Essay Example For Students
Free Media Violences: Boy Killed by 19 inch Essay Sony Media Argumentative Persuasive Essays Boy Killed by 19 Television Set Blaming the Media No Longer Just an Excuse for Bad Parenting BRAGGS, OKLAHOMA-The concept of media-induced violence took what is being called its most disturbing and literal turn last week when an eleven-year-old boy was assaulted and killed by his familys television set. The boy, a sixth grader who liked TV more than he liked being crushed by heavy things, was pronounced dead in his living room shortly after the incident. The television, a 19 RCA stereo unit with universal remote, was unharmed, and is currently in custody. Avery, a student at Muskogee County Middle School, was reportedly sitting in his home watching the suspect after school last Thursday. Joseph Avery, the boys father, was in the house with his son, but remained unaware of the tragedy until finding his son and calling 911 some twenty minutes after the incident. Police arrived shortly to subdue the television, and paramedics tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate the victim. I just cant believe this, Mr. Avery said Friday. I always thought TV would kill my son, but I thought it might do it a little more indirectly. Early reports indicate that Mr. Avery may have been distracted at the time of the killing by another television set in another room. This second set, a 27 Sony, is being questioned for its possible involvement in the killing. Like most incidents that are blamed on television violence, it seems that warning signs forecasting the tragedy were present but ignored. We were just watching Gladiator on that TV the other day, said Mr. Avery tearfully. And right there on the screen, looking right at me and Kyle, was Russell Crowe, looking all pissed and vowing vengeance. But I thought he was talking to Commodus. Since the introduction of the television ratings system in recent years, experts say that many parents tend to underestimate the risks that are still involved when their children sit in front of a television. Even some television executives are admitting the dangers of these wretched picture boxes. People tend to think that a V-chip will protect kids from any sort of violence that might be caused by television and its child-destroying programming, said child destroyer and NBC programming chief Jeff Zucker. For complete safety, NBC suggests more substantial means of protection, like some V-Leather-Straps and a V-Six-Point-Roll-Cage. Speculation has already begun as to what may have motivated the television set to lash out so aggressively. It is possible that the TV may have been facing another TV on the other side of the room, which, only moments before the killing, could have been showing a particularly violent scene from an uncut version of Best of the Best 2, giving the TV the idea to kill something. These reports could be neither confirmed nor deemed plausible. Ron Calder, a family friend, says that the tragedy has changed his own opinions about media-induced violence. Really, I always thought the whole idea was just ridiculous. In fact, me and Joe were just talking about this a few weeks ago. He was trying to tell me that TV is responsible for this and movies are responsible for that. So I told him, Joe, the day your TV actually jumps off the goddamn stand and kills your boy, Ill believe it. Well, I guess this shuts me up pretty good. .

Informative Abstract Example Essay Example
Informative Abstract Example Paper Ronnie Green Informative Abstract June 28, 2011 Image gap is the difference between how a person wants to look and sound compared to how they are actually viewed by others. Projecting your desired image can build trust and is critical to successful communication. Projecting an inappropriate image, however, can erode trust and cause others to doubt your abilities. Four components of your overall image are your projected first impression, your depth of knowledge, your breadth of knowledge, and your enthusiasm. Your projected first impression is the initial impact you make on another person due to your dress, voice, grooming, handshake, eye contact, and body language. First impressions tend to be long lasting and difficult to overcome. To create a positive first impression, you should have a firm but not overpowering handshake. Sit and walk in a straight yet relaxed manner. Maintain high standards of personal hygiene and grooming. Speak clearly while naturally varying your tone and volume. Finally, dress appropriately for your job responsibilities and work environment since skillful dressing can evoke positive responses to your personality. Depth of knowledge refers to how well you know your area of expertise. Demonstrating your depth of knowledge can project credibility and demand respect. You can develop depth of knowledge by studying company policies and industry standards. You can also take advantage of training programs offered by your company. Breadth of knowledge reflects your ability to communicate with others on topics outside your area of expertise. It will also allow you to increase your circle of influence with various types of people. You can increase your breadth of knowledge by reading a variety of books and magazines, watching and listening to a diverse selection of television and radio programs, and interacting with a wide array of individuals. If you encounter a person whose interests you are not familiar with, you can quickly gain knowledge and show interest by asking questions. An appropriate level of enthusiasm demonstrates your sincere interest in a subject and desire to accomplish a task. Enthusiastic people tend to work harder, longer, and more accurately than those who are not enthusiastic. Additionally, your enthusiasm, positive or negative, will spread to those around you. These elements help dictate the response you receive from others in everyday interactions. A positive response demonstrates successful interpersonal relations. It will also foster open, honest, and trusting communications.
